“Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid.”

This is the quote that inspired me to call my business “Mighty Forces.” I first heard it in the movie “Almost Famous” (Frances McDormand’s character says it to her children). It’s been attributed, or mis-attributed, to Goethe, who seems to have said something similar but different.

Regardless of the source, I’m a mother now myself, and my daughter is the mightiest force I’ve ever encountered. Her spirit is boldness incarnate. I’ve gone from thinking parenting is about teaching or guiding to seeing it as a journey of learning, and un-learning.

I turned 50 this year. Inspired by this milestone, by motherhood, by the pain of the last ~10 years here in the U.S., and by my expanding spiritual life, I am molting. And as I discover my new shape, I am feeling called to evolve Mighty Forces, too.

The magic of bold action will remain core to my offerings. So will my passion for inspiring people to express themselves more fully, and my fervent belief that we deserve and can create a more wholesome and constructive public square. Also abiding: my deep devotion to feeding the spirits of people who, like me, are wired to do work that makes this world a better place. I believe in the ripple effects that come from taking care of these folks.

As I age, I find myself less interested in designing my work around my skills, and more interested in what my energy can uniquely create — still, always, grounded in my values. I launched the Mighty Forces community earlier this year and some of the magic that’s happened in that container feels like an amuse bouche signifying what’s just ahead on the Mighty Forces path.

As I take this summer to allow clarity to emerge, I invite you to explore the community as well as season 1 of the Mighty Forces podcast, a celebration of people who give a damn. If you’d like to follow along as I live into this next chapter out loud, please sign up for my newsletter.
