Write Now

Let’s write our way through it

Writing — for ourselves, not necessarily for anyone else — is powerful medicine. Begin each week with an infusion of this tonic, reconnecting with your truest self in communion with other women who, let’s be real, are just trying to hold it together right now.

The idea is to start our weeks together, so we’ll gather on Zoom Mondays at 9am PT/ 12pm ET, starting March 31. The cost is $79/month.

Anne Frank

“I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.”

Virginia Woolf

“Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.”

The experience

A weekly hour of connection with self and others on Zoom, facilitated by author and story coach Amanda Hirsch.

Something you create as part of Write Now may take on life beyond our time together — an essay, a letter, a social media post — but that is not the goal. The goal is to connect, and to tap into the power of creativity as an antidote to anxiety and separation.

Here’s how each weekly session will flow:

First…

Check-in & connect

Then…

30 minutes of writing, with creative prompts.

And finally…

Reconnection & a closing ritual.

Margaret Atwood

“A word after a word after a word is power.”

Barbara Kingsolver

“Don’t try to figure out what other people want to hear from you. Figure out what you have to say.”

Why “Write Now,” right now?

Writing is thinking.

When we engage with our ideas in writing, we pressure-test them, we expand them, and we realize them more fully.

Connection buoys us.

One of the most important gifts we can give ourselves right now is connection with our fellow human beings. Even if you have other places and spaces for connection, consider that too much is just enough right now, given all that we face.

Writing is healing.

Research shows that writing about traumatic experiences helps us to heal. To wit: “The act of putting words to our emotions and feelings can help us contextualize, and better understand, difficult events in our lives at a neurobiological level.” - Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross in Your Brain on Art

We all need extra space right now.

We take care of so many other people, and we meet so many other people’s needs. You deserve a supportive and energizing space just for you, that is designed to feed your creativity and spirit. Recharging your batteries with us will help you show up better for everyone else.

Joan Didion

“I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see, and what it means.”

Toni Morrison

“He licked his lips. ‘Well, if you want my opinion —’

‘I don’t, ‘ She said. ‘I have my own.”

Your financial investment is $79/month. I know life happens (and life is life-ing hard these days), so while I’d love for you to be there every week, I ask that you commit to being on at least two calls a month.

Your investment

Meet your host

Hi! I’m Amanda Hirsch, a writer and the founder and CEO of Mighty Forces.

I’ve spent over two decades helping people bring their stories to life. And I’ve noticed something: When people’s work with me gets them writing more, it necessarily injects more space into their lives for figuring out what they really think, and how they really feel.

With Write Now, I’m leaning into this observation and purposefully creating more space at a time when we need it more than ever.
